OUR DOG BITTEN BY COYPU

We have two lurchers (whippet x bedlington cross) and they do run off when they decide to go and investigate down the back field ....... And so last Thursday I got home late from a plant buying trip and the younger one Fudge escaped out the door before I could stop him .... he came home half an hour later covered in blood - I just scooped him up, rang the vet and rushed down there. He had been bitten in the jugular by a coypu - we have lots of them around here - and had lost about a quarter of his blood. Our lovely vet (in Putanges) bandaged him up and told me it was 50/50 .... but he made it through the night and had a blood transfusion the next day. Mega thanks to the vet's assistant who volunteered her young dog as a donor.

He is now awaiting an operation on Thursday as the wounds are deep, into the vein and in an area where there are a lot of nerve endings - so our vet has recommended a vet in Argentan to do the operation as there could be complications.

Will keep you up-to-date with progress - meanwhile as you can see the patient is looking good....

Long time francophile (32 years) living between our lovely house in Normandy and work in London.  Now I finally have the time to devote more energy to Le Moulinet.

With my brother and sister-in-law having just retired, they are setting up a business based in our barn to sell local vide-grenier buys to a worldwide customer base thanks to the the marvels of the internet ....
